WANA: Army man gunned down

WANA, Feb 11: An armyman was gunned down by two unidentified motorcyclists in the Azam Warsak bazaar, 15 kilometres from here on Wednesday. Officials confirmed that two gunmen riding a motorcycle opened firing on an armyman, Bacha Khan Khattak, in the main bazaar and fled. Bacha Khan died on the spot.

Political Agent Mohammad Azam Khan said that the victim, who was posted in the army canteen in Azam Warsak, was in plain clothes at the time of the attack. He said that search had been launched for the assailants.

Azam Khan said that the authorities were investigating whether Bacha Khan was killed over personal enmity or for some other reason. Last year, an official of Inter Services Intelligence, Sher Nawaz, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Wana bazaar.

Meanwhile, the South Waziristan Agency political administration warned the tribes living along the border with Afghanistan to refuse any incentives offered to them by the Afghan government.

The agency administration would suspend all incentives and privileges to the tribesmen if they did not stop receiving the incentives from Afghanistan and would take punitive action against them, sources said.

Political Tehsildar Matiullah Barki, speaking on behalf of the political agent, told a tribal jirga that the administration wanted the tribesmen to shun all incentives from Afghanistan.
