Outside help in protecting N-assets denied

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 8: Pakistan on Sunday denied any US involvement in safeguarding the country's nuclear technology and arsenal. Reacting to a report aired by NBC TV on Friday night and carried by a section of press on Saturday , foreign office spokesman Masood Khan said no millions of dollars were being spent by the US. "Pakistan is protecting its nuclear assets with its own resources. No foreign cooperation is involved."

Talking to Dawn, Inter-Services Public Relations chief Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan said: "It is absolutely baseless and there is no truth in it. Pakistan is capable of protecting its nuclear assets and no outside help is required for the purpose."

He denied any contacts between the US and Pakistan officials in this regard. He said the National Command Authority, which was established in February 2000, had shown confidence in the command and control system put in place.
