KARACHI: Man dies in goods train, another axed to death

KARACHI, Feb 8: The Railway police recovered cash and saving certificates from the possession of an elderly man, who died shortly after he was spotted in a goods train at City Railway Station on Saturday.
The man, who seemed a destitute from his appearance, died before he could be shifted to the hospital, said ASI Mujahid Abbas who is investigating the case. During victim's search, a filled-in application form for computerized national identity card; Rs13,122 cash and three saving certificates worth Rs90,000, Rs13,000 and Rs12,000 were recovered from his possession. The certificates were issued from the Habib Bank Arambagh branch, ASI Mujahid Abbas told Dawn.
According to the CNIC-form, the victim was identified as Allah Ditta, son of Fateh Mohammad, and a resident of Wahdat Colony, Hyderabad. The victim was born in 1947 in Faisalabad. He was illiterate, unmarried and his mother's name was Zainab, as per particulars given in the form.
Mujahid Abbas of the Railway police told Dawn that when the victim was recovered from the train he was having some difficulty in breathing. Edhi ambulance was immediately called to shift the elderly man to hospital, he said. However, before the arrival of the ambulance, Allah Ditta died. His post mortem examination was carried out at the Civil Hospital. "We tried to ask his name and what he was doing in the goods train, but, he could not reply and died before us," the investigating officer said.
He said that the body had been kept at the Edhi morgue for the time being. Meanwhile, a police official left for Hyderabad to find the relatives of the victim, he added.
AXED TO DEATH: A man was axed to death by his son-in-law in Steel Town on Sunday.
Police said that victim's son-in-law Mitthu had come to Steel Town to take back his estranged wife, but exchanged hot-words with his father-in-law. Following some arguments, Mitthu attacked his father-in-law Dawood with an axe and fled, police said.
The victim was taken to the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police are making raids to arrest the suspect.
DIES: An official of the Sindh Reserve police fell and died in Playland, Clifton on Sunday.
Police said Liaquat Ali, 30, was on duty in plain clothes sitting on a wall when he fell and hit a rock. He was shifted to the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead due to profuse bleeding. A young man, who was injured on Eid day, died during treatment in Civil Hospital on Sunday.
Police said that Ziaul Islam, 30, had suffered a bullet wound in Nayalane Lyari. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital, where he died after remaining under treatment for a week.
