By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 8: S. Abu Zafar M. Majeed Askari Azad bin Tahir, the father of Prof Tipu Sultan, Prof Sirajudaula Syed and Dr Shershah Syed, died here on Sunday. He was 83.

He is survived by widow, three sons and five daughters. His funeral prayers will be offered on Monday after Zuhar prayers in Masjid-i-Bilal, Khayaban-i-Ittehad.

Born in 1920 in Bihar, he became the vice-chairman of the Patna municipality at 21. After migrating to West Pakistan in 1947, he founded a school, Ghazi Mohammad bin Qasim Secondary School, which is now a college.

He considered the medical profession to be an ideal one and insisted that his wife, Atia Zafar, become a doctor. She had to move to the then East Pakistan, with her four children, to complete her education.
