KARACHI: Overflowing sewage floods streets in Lyari Town

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 8: Several streets in Daryabad Union Council of Lyari Town have been inundated with overflowing sewage gushing out from nearby chocked gutter lines, creating stinking conditions in the locality.

Area residents said stinking water had made their lives miserable. They complained that mostly gutter lines in the locality were chocked. "It is impossible to walk or drive on street roads due to sewerage water," they said.

The worst affected areas include street nos 5, 6, 7 and 10, situated along the Fidha Husain Shaika Road near Ghausia Masjid. Stagnant stinking water has made the streets impassable because of dirt and filth.

A resident of the area criticized the elected representatives of the town and the union council for being indifferent to their problems. He said, "Overflowing gutters are now contaminating drinking water, endangering public health."

He urged the concerned authorities to take immediate remedial measures to improve the situation, otherwise, he feared that an epidemic disease would spread in the locality.
