MMA slams MQM for opposing strike

KARACHI, Feb 7: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Saturday bitterly criticized the Muttahida Qaumi Movement for opposing the MMA strike call, given to express solidarity with nuclear scientists on Feb 6.

In a statement, MMA leader and Jamat-i-Islami's acting Karachi Amir Shaikh Rafique Ahmed felicitated citizens of Karachi for observing a 'complete' strike, saying the strike proved that the nation supported nuclear scientists instead of the government.

He rejected Muttahida's claims that religious activists were involved in arson and creating law and order situation in the city, saying it was only MQM's legacy to snatch vehicles from transporters and then torching these to scare the people.

"Component religious parties of MMA believe in peaceful democratic struggle and they have never ever resorted to violence to terrorise citizens or paralyse life in the country," he said, adding that citizens of Karachi proved that they hate US and its agents in the city.

MMA leader alleged that their opponents were involved in disturbing city peace during the strike.-PPI
