HYDERABAD, Feb 5: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal staged a rally at Kohinoor Chowk here on Thursday to mark the Kashmir day.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Jamaat-i-Islami chief Dr Mumtaz Memon alleged that President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali were performing the role of the SHOs for America.
He said that whoever was named by the USA was being arrested and even the nuclear scientists were not being spared.
The JI leader alleged that the scientists were being coerced to give confessional statements. He said that the nation was fully aware of the facts and not prepared to believe the rulers.
He said that there was an unholy alliance among the US, Israel and India, adding America had no objections if Israel and India were involved in the proliferation of nuclear technology and its targets were Muslim states.
He accused the rulers of sell-out of the Kashmir cause and called upon the Muslim countries to unite for the common cause.
He appealed to the people of Hyderabad to observe a strike on Friday (today).
Others who spoke on the occasion included Allama Altaf Hussain Al-Hussaini, Abdul Waheed Qureshi, Mohammad Hussain Qureshi, Maulana Taj Mohammad Nahiyoon, Shaikh Shoukat Ali, Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, Mohammad Saleem Qureshi and Rao Masood Ali Khan.
The rally adopted three resolutions against price hike and unemployment and condemned the "humiliation" of the Pakistani scientists. The rally also demanded immediate release of MMA vice- president Allama Sajid Naqvi.
DIST GOVT: Hyderabad district government held different programmes to mark the Kashmir Day.
A big procession was taken out from the gymkhana to press club which was led by community development EDO Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi.
Peoples from different walks of life participated in the procession. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Qureshi, education EDO Manzoor Bhutto, district council's women development committee chairperson Saira Naseer and Dr Samad paid tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir.
They called upon the United Nations to implement its resolution for holding a plebiscite in Kashmir. They also lauded the efforts of President Musharraf for resolving the Kashmir issue.
The district government also organized a debate competition among girl students at Government Girls' High School, GOR Colony.
Mr Qureshi, school head mistress Apa Haleema Junejo, Fozia Memon and others also spoke to the students.
The management of Workers' Model High School, SITE, also organized a debate competition to mark the occasion. Another procession was taken out in Latifabad which was led by Taluka Nazim Abdul Jabbar Khan.
A large number of union council Nazims, Naib Nazims, councillors and the people participated in the procession.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khan dwelt on the importance of the Kashmir day.
