HYDERABAD, Feb 1: The board of governors of law colleges affiliated with Sindh University has rejected a 100 per cent increase in the college fee and allowed 50 per cent increase.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the board held at the Jamshoro campus of the university on Saturday and presided over by its Vice-Chancellor and board chairman Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.

The meeting was of the unanimous opinion that serious efforts would have to be made by the law college administrations to improve the quality of law education.

In furtherance of this objective, it was decided to introduce test for admission to law colleges. A committee, headed by Professor Aftab Ahmed Shaikh with Faiz Muhammad Soomro and Munir Ahmed Rahujo as members, was constituted to draft rules for ad hoc appointments of lecturers in law colleges.

REJECTED: Meanwhile, students of law colleges rejected 50 per cent increase in admission, tuition and others fees, contending the raise was aimed at depriving the students of poor families from seeking law education.

The students, who continued their token hunger strike on the 43rd consecutive day outside the press club here on Sunday, said they would accept only five per cent increase in the fees.

They said the protest would continue till the decision of the constitutional petition filed in the Sindh High Court by the Law Students Action Committee general secretary Dr Mumtaz Lashari. They said students themselves had demanded the introduction of a test for admission to law colleges.

DATE EXTENDED: Date for submission of applications for the posts of assistant professor, lecturers in different departments, computer operator and library assistant in Sindh University has been extended from Feb 4 to 6 due to Eid holidays. This was announced by the university registrar on Saturday.
