KARACHI: Plan to make fertilizer from offal finalized
KARACHI, Jan 31: The Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town has finalized a plan for burial of the offal of sacrificial animals, which will help in manufacturing fertilizer.
This was announced by Town Nazim Abdul Wahab in a press conference at the Town Office on Saturday. He said manufacturing of fertilizer from offal would save millions of rupees, which were otherwise spent on purchase of fertilizer for parks.
He said the town administration had set up eight different collection points in town from where offal collected would be shifted for burial.
"Two places have been designated for burial of offal, one in Scheme No 33 and Scheme No 14, which are not densely populated and population is scattered," he said.
Terming the reservations of some quarters baseless, Abdul Wahab said that the burial of offal did not carry any environmental hazard. The plan had been prepared after thorough consultations with environmental experts, including those of PCSIR, he said.
When his attention was drawn to the raid of Adviser to Chief Minister on Environment at one of the burial sites, the Town Nazim said that this act of adviser was politically motivated.
He maintained that the plan had been devised considering all environment-related factors. Moreover, precautionary measures would be taken to prevent any environmental degradation from it, he added.-PPI
