LAHORE: Sun brings relief to people

Published February 1, 2004

LAHORE, Jan 31: The provincial capital citizens took a sigh of relief to see the sun peeping through clouds for some time on Saturday after almost 36-hour rain.

It remained partly cloudy and the wind carried the ice-cold impact of the previous two days' rain.

The city's maximum temperature increased from Friday's 11.3 degrees Celsius to 14 degrees Celsius, but the wind was biting in the evening.

The local meteorological department officials expected some improvement in the weather conditions during the next 24 hours. They said the westerly system, which gave rain and snowfall in many parts of the country during the past three days, had almost passed.

They reported 24mm of rain in Kalam, 19mm in Muzaffarabad, 10mm in Balakot, 7mm each in Garhi Dupatta and Kakul, 4mm in Malamjabba, 2mm in Saidu Sharif and 1mm in Skardu.

The Met office forecast clear weather in most parts of the Punjab and light rain in the NWFP, northern areas and Rawalpindi division during the next 24 hours.
