KARACHI: Power tariff change for KWSB sought

KARACHI, Jan 28: Karachi City Nazim and KWSB chairman Naimatullah Khan has appealed to the government to charge agriculture tariff on electricity consumed by the Water Board.

In a letter to the federal Government, the City Nazim has expressed concern that higher electricity charges are being recovered from the KSWB as compared to the rest of the country.

It may be mentioned here that the KWSB is paying industrial and commercial tariff on electricity while elsewhere in the country, Wapda recovers electricity charges from water supply organizations according to the tariff fixed for agriculture.

The KWSB is a welfare and service-oriented organization working on a 'no-profit, no-loss' basis. Water is brought to the city from sources located 160km away for supply to citizens. An intricate system is used for this purpose, Mr Khan said. Sometime, pumping needs to be done three times to push water to the city, he pointed out.-APP
