KARACHI: Rally against Thal project on Feb 10

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 26: The political parties, opposed to the construction of Greater Thal Canal Project, have decided to hold protest march against the project on Feb 10.

The decision was announced here by the local components of the anti-greater Thal Canal committee at the People's Secretariat on Monday. Addressing a news conference, Haji Muzaffar Shujra of the PPP, Amin Khatak of the ANP and other leaders said that the protest rally would commence from Mazar-i-Quaid and terminate at the Karachi Press Club on Feb 10. They also announced mobilization programme in this regard.

The leaders criticized the government for not respecting sentiments of the people of Sindh, whose economy and ecology was badly affected by denial of its due water share from Indus river system.

They alleged that by not stopping the construction of the controversial project, despite Sindh Assembly's resolutions against it, the federal government had clearly shown its lack of interest in the wellbeing of the people of Sindh.
