Soccer camp to be shifted

ISLAMABAD, Jan 24: The national football camp for the 9th SAF Games will be shifted to Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex, on Feb 5, it was officially learnt on Saturday.

The camp is currently running at Iqbal Park, Lahore, but the probables, as well as the coaches, faced distractions like too much noise at that venue which is situated next to a bus-stand.

Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) is training 30 probables who are all under-23 since only the players of that age can compete in the events like Olympics, Asiad and SAF Games.

Chinese coach, Waung, is training the probables for the SAF (South Asian Federation) Games - an event in which Pakistan has won the gold medal twice.

The final squad will be selected after trials next month at the sprawling Jinnah Stadium - the main facility at the Pakistan Sports Complex.

Jinnah Stadium will stage the blue-ribband events of athletics and football during the March 29-April 7 SAF Games.

Besides the Chinese coach,Pakistan's national coaches Tariq Lutfi (PIA) and Bilal Ahmed Butt (Wapda) are also assisting in the coaching of national under-23 footballers while Ch. Abdul Rasheed is the camp commandant.
