GUJRANWALA, Jan 19: TheAnti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Monday issued non-bailable warrants of a dozen policemen, including Gujranwala's formerDIG, Sialkot ex-DPO and in-service Gujrat DPO, in connection with the Sialkot jail incident.
The court ordered the police authorities to produce them before it on Jan 29.The judge also issued bailable arrest warrants to on duty medical officers of the Sialkot Civil Hospital for showing negligence in the treatment of victims.
The prosecution apprised the judge that police officials involved in the jail incident could not be arrested because the government did not allow their arrest. At this, judge Iftikhar Hussain Shah issued non-bailable arrest warrants against former Gujranwala DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal, former Sialkot DPO Amjad Javaid, in-service Gujrat DPO Raja Muhammad Munawar and some other police officials.
The investigating agency of the Sialkot jail incident sought permission from the chief justice for interrogation from former Sialkot DS&J Chaudhry Zafar Hussain on his negligence during his visit to jail along with several judges.
Meanwhile, the same court also rejected the bail applications of three former assistant superintendents of Sialkot Jail. Akhter Iqbal, Raja Mushtaq and Ghulam Sarwer were arrested for their involvement in the Sialkot jail incident.
The counsel of the accused pleaded before court that former assistant superintendents were not involved in the jail incident as they were also held hostage along with the judges by the culprits.
However, the prosecution insisted that they were involved in the jail incident because they foiled negotiation of Prison DIG Sarfraz Mufti with the accused. After casting away their bail applications, the judge adjourned the case.
ARRESTED: An FIA raiding team on Monday claimed to have arrested three members of a human smuggler gang, including the ring leader, and recovered fake passports and other documents from their possession.
FIA deputy director Muhammad Riaz said that ring leader Afzal had set up his base camp in Turkey. He said criminal Afzal and his accomplices used to send people to European countries through Turkey.
The FIA official said that the culprits had received Rs300,000 each from seven youths of Langey village (Gujrat) to send them to Greece. He said all the seven youths were shot dead by the Turkish border security force when they tried to cross the border through a ferry.
Taking a serious note of the incident, he said the Punjab chief minister ordered immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the human trafficking.
He said acting on a tip-off that the culprits were present in the village, the FIA team raided there and arrested ring leader Afzal, Iqbal Topa, Maqsood and Raja Tanvir. However, their two accomplices - Rana Zafar of Lahore and Anser of Lala Musa managed to escape.He said the ring leader revealed that one of their accomplices was arrested in Turkey.
