KARACHI: Minister suspends Excise officials: 13 agents arrested


KARACHI, Jan 19: Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Rauf Siddiqui paid a surprise visit to the Motor Registration Wing of the department at civic centre on Monday, where his squad arrested 13 agents for fleecing the citizens.

The minister also ordered suspension of a clerk and a constable, while an inspector and another constable of MR wing were asked to report to the department.

The agents, arrested on pointing out by the ETO, Shaukat Bukhari, include Anees Ahmed alias Chand, Atif Ahmed, Abdul Ghafoor, Muhammad Amir, Qaim Raza, Khurshed Pervez, Hinan, Yaqoob Ali, Iftekhar Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Nadeem, Jameel Akhtar and Haroon Rasheed.

Constable Qadir Soomro was suspended for being in possession of original documents of a vehicle outside the office. Similarly, junior clerk Abdul Malik was suspended for roaming outside the office during office hours.

Moreover, constable Mir Afzal, who interfered in official work and an inspector of counter number 106, who was found absent from his duty, were asked to report to the department. The minister directed the staff of counter number 108 to get an agent, Razi, on Tuesday, otherwise all the staff of the counter would be suspended.-PPI
