HYDERABAD, Jan 17: The Sindh cane commissioner has asked growers to submit applications along with evidence to him about the non-payment of fixed price of sugarcane during the crushing season of 2002-03.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said it had been brought to his notice that growers had not received Rs43 per 40 kilograms of sugarcane.
Meanwhile, The deputy director food, Hyderabad, notified here on Saturday that two staff members of the department, Aslam Ahmad Khan and Shakeel Ahmad, would remain present at the office from 2pm to 8pm to register complaints about flour being sold at higher rates.
Chakki owners of Hyderabad were issued challans on Saturday for 10,000 bags of wheat for the third week of January.
ARRESTS: The regional police officer, Hyderabad, has said the regional police during the last 24 hours have arrested one Patharidar, six absconders and eight criminals and recovered one gun, six pistols, 39 bullets and seven cartridges from their possession.
SPLA: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has demanded that appointments of teachers on contract basis should be made through the Sindh Public Service Commission.
The general body of the SPLA, Hyderabad region, at its meeting held at the Muslim College here on Saturday said the association would oppose the direct appointment of teachers.
The meeting said Tando Adam Girls College principal Kauser Laghari should be removed and a senior professor be appointed in here place.
It called for the grant of promotions on the basis of "four-tire" formula and an early decision in move-over cases of college teachers.
Prof Sher Khan Selaro presided over the meeting.
The SPLA demanded the establishment of separate secondary and higher secondary boards of education in Hyderabad to reduce the work burden on the Hyderabad BISE.
It called upon the government to restore the teaching allowance of college teachers of the Dadu district which was stopped on Aug 27 and the desert allowance of teachers of the Tharparkar district.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Salero warned that teachers would observe a black day on Jan 27 if their demands were not accepted.
They called upon Federal Education Minister Zubeda Jalal to announce a scholarship for college teachers for higher education abroad.
