KARACHI, Jan 13: The Majlis-i-Shura of the Jamat-i-Islami (JI) Sindh, on Tuesday felicitated the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) leadership on successful negotiations with the government over the LFO issue and expressed the hope that 17th amendment to the Constitution would help restoring "genuine democracy" in the country.

However, it expressed concern over the political situation in Sindh, despite the "major breakthrough" at the national level, and alleged that the governor was takes directives from London, instead of taking decisions in accordance with the people's wishes and desires.

The Majlis-e-Shura, with its Sindh Amir Dr Mumtaz Ali Memon in the chair, said that despite the formation of a democratic government in the province, budget meetings of Sindh were held at the Governor's House and budget was formed and approved under the governor's supervision.

The meeting expressed astonishment over the claims by the governor and the chief minister about peace in the province, and observed that record incidents of murder, rape, car and bike snatching, robberies and extortion were recorded last year.

It further alleged that police remained busy in "protecting proclaimed offenders" while the home department used all its resources and efforts in taking back cases against "terrorists".

It further observed that nobody was safe in Sindh where the provincial secretary general of the ruling PML-Q, Abdul Razzaq, was killed in broad daylight and the assassins of Razzaq Khan, Khalid Bin Waleed, Hakeem Saeed and Maulana Yousuf Ludhyanvi could not be arrested.

A resolution unanimously adopted by the Majlis expressed concern over the increase in prices of essential commodities and said that flour was going out of the reach of the common people.

The resolution said that the provincial minister's intervention into the city government's affairs and the poor law and order situation in the province had badly disturbed foreign investment and development activities in Sindh.-PPI
