LAHORE, Jan 12: As many as eight changes were made by the independent committee in the 14-player Pakistan squad that was announced on Monday for the forthcoming Under-17 Asia Cup in India.

Shaharyar M. Khan, the PCB chairman, had overturned the previous team announced by Aamir Sohail's national selection committee on Jan 1 after receiving complaints of nepotism from various quarters.

However, Fahad Zaman, a central figure in the allegations of nepotism because he was son of Farrukh Zaman a member of the five-member selection panel, was named in the new squad by independent committee.

The remaining new faces are: Asad Zahid (Rawalpindi), WaqasHaroon (Karachi), Mohammad Fayyaz (Islamabad), Kamil Majeed(Lahore), Nawaz Sardar (Sheikhupura), Kamran Naeem (Faisalabad), Tehzeeb Raza (Lahore) and Saad Azeem (Karachi).

Lahore's Nasir Jamshed, who was retained as captain, is only one of six players named from the previously selected team. The others are: Adnan Raza (Lahore), Ramiz Raja (Karachi), Yasir Arafat (Peshawar), Raza Ali Dar (Lahore) and Fahad Zaman (Peshawar).

Those whofailed to win selection because of being overage were: Abdul Mannan (Bhalwal), Salman Akbar (Lahore), Hidayatullah Khan (Peshawar), Khalid Waheed (Gujranwala), Ali Raza (Faisalabad), Aamir Yousuf (Sheikhupura) and Nasir Ahmed (Peshawar).

Wicket-keeper Kashif Mahmood of Lahore, a member of the original squad did not appear in the fresh trials. A PCB spokesman said that the independent committee had originally proposed five changes in the team, but the wrist tests showed that seven players - three fast bowlers, threebatsmen and a spinner - were omitted after being found overage.

Furthermore, he said the committee requested the national selectors to nominate youngsters from their respective centres who then appeared for the trials at the National Cricket Academy on Sunday.

Thespokesman refused to comment about the steps likely to be taken against the probables who appeared in the trials despite being overage. The rules suggest a five-year ban for presenting false documents.

Revised squad: Nasir Jamshed (captain), Adnan Raza, Ramiz Raja, Yasir Arafat, Raza Ali Dar, Fahad Zaman, Asad Zahid, WaqasHaroon, Mohammad Fayyaz, Kamil Majeed, Nawaz Sardar, Kamran Naeem, Tehzeeb Raza, Saad Azeem.Officials: Ali Zia (manager), Mohsin Kamal (coach) and Sohail Saleem (team doctor).
