MIRPURKHAS, Jan 12: A shortage of water is being witnessed in the city after the supply was curtailed by five million gallon daily following the closure of Nara Canal.
The city residents need nine million gallons of water daily but after the closure of the canal for annual desilting, water supply has been reduced. After a few days, two million gallon water will be supplied on alternate basis from three water supply schemes that is insufficient for the people.
The Taluka Municipal Administration has completed work on water supply scheme phase-4 at a cost of Rs12.5 million. Water has been stored in it but due to non- availability of more funds, it may not start functioning.
SUKKUR: The residents held a protest demonstration and staged a sit-in on the Ayup Gate Road here on Monday against water shortage in the city for the last one week. Raising slogans against the district and taluka councils of Sukkur, the protestors burnt tyres and pelted vehicles with stones. They demanded that the supply of water should be immediately restored.
HYDERABAD: Following restoration of water supply to the Akram Wah, water has reached the Hala Naka and Preetabad pumping stations as a result normal supply to command areas of the pumping stations has been restored.
This was announced by Water and Sanitation Agency managing director Tahir Ahmed in a statement here on Monday. The areas include Truck Stand, Hala Naka, Ghumanabad, Laloo Lashari Goth, Mulla Ismail Goth, Kali Mori, Government College Road, Masan Road, Liaquat Colony, Al-Rahim Colony, Firdous Colony, Ilyasabad, Usmanabad, Gaoshala, Seroghat, Bakra Mandi, Effandi Garden, Odean Cinema, Islamabad, Tando Yousuf, Gujrati Para, Jurial Shah Colony, Badin Chali, American Quarters, Preetabad and Gulshan-i-Khair Mohammad.
