Export target

ISLAMABAD, Jan 8: The government has set $6.280 billion as export target for the second half (January-June) of the current financial year against $5.963 billion earned during the same period last year, an increase of 5.31 per cent.

Official figures made available to Dawn showed the export target set for the period under review was higher by 34 per cent when compared to $4.677 billion worth of goods exported during the same period in 2001-02.

The exports for the first half (July-December) of the current financial year stood at $5.881 billion against $5.198 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 13.15 per cent.

Further break-up showed the government had projected $992 million target for exports during January 2004 against $947 million exports of last year in the same month, an increase of 4.75 per cent; $901 million for February against $776 million, an increase of 16 per cent; $987 million for March against $936 million, an increase of 5.44 per cent; and $1,035 million for April against $990 million last year in the same month, an increase of 4.54 per cent.
