KARACHI: Revision of electoral rolls in progress

KARACHI, Dec 29: The updation and revision of electoral rolls is being undertaken throughout the province.

Necessary arrangements have been made by the election commission for draft publication of electoral rolls for inviting claims (inclusion of names), objections (deletion of names) and application for corrections at specified display centres on the said date.

Draft electoral rolls can be inspected in each electoral area at conspicuous places and in the offices of registration officers concerned (assistant election commissioners) in districts and in the office of assistant registration officers.

The election commission has appointed 20 registration officers, 540 assistant registration officers and 140 revising authorities in the province. The revising authorities have been appointed amongst judicial officers.

All those persons who attain the age of 18 on or before Jan 1 and whose names do not appear in the existing electoral rolls will be entitled to file claims in Form-IV for inclusion, objections in Form-V for deletion of names of deceased voters or those who have migrated.

Corrections in the existing entries can also be made by filing applications on Form-VI.

Claims, objections and applications for corrections will be filed with the revising authorities, registration officers and assistant registration officers between Jan 2 and 22.

The revising authorities will decide claims, objections and applications for corrections filed within time.

Ahmed Ali Halepota, Provincial Election Commissioner, Sindh has advised the people to visit display centres and ensure that their names are available there. All eligible voters are, therefore, advised to avail of this opportunity within the stipulated period.—PPI
