Classical dances enthral audience

ISLAMABAD, Dec 21: Pakistan’s leading dancer, Tehreema Mitha, gave a thrilling 90-minute performance at the Islamabad Club Auditorium on Saturday night.

The performance was marked by originality of concept, sticking to the bounds of classical form and confines of tradition. She rendered eight dance performances, which showed her complete mastery of this form of art.

The overall ambience of the music was charming and correct to the classical genre. The dancer syncronized her movements and expressions with the melodious beats of classical music.

Ms Mitha’s second performance was on ‘Mein Na Boloongi’, sung by Sharafat Ali Khan. In this item, Tabla was performed by Ghulam Abbas.

‘Zara Dheeray Sey Bolo’ by Shameem Begum was another number to which Tehreema Mitha gave a thrilling performance. Tabla was performed by Dilawar Hussain.

Before the interval, ‘Tillana’ was rendered in Raag Des Malhar Taal Farodast while the Sitar was played by Ghulam Farid Nizami and Tabla by Mohammad Ajmal.

On the occasion, musicians showed their classical heritage to the best of the traditions, which was greatly applauded by the audience.

Ms Mitha’s dance titled Raqs-i-Rooh (the dance of the soul), was the pick of the second half. In this performance vocals were rendered by Nighat Seema, Taj Multani, Rafiq Rana while Dilawar Hussain was on the Tabla. The dance was performed to the tune of ‘Raat Kirvani Teen Taal’.

She also danced to the tune of Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s ‘Phir Pai Nazar’, which was presented in Qawwali form by Javed and Babar Niazi.

Tehreema Mitha’s last item had a touch of humour in which the dancer was shown reading a book outside her house when a fly begins to distract her.

On the whole, the performance was greatly applauded by the audience.
