KARACHI: Population rise affecting uplift

KARACHI, Dec 21: The explosion of population can ruin all efforts for reforms and development in Pakistan.

This was by stated by the Managing Director of the Marie Stopes Society Dr Mohsina Bilgrami while talking to a 10-member delegation, which called on her on Sunday. She said coordinated efforts and population planning were required to protect the country from serious consequences of rise in population.

The high rate of childbirth would gradually cast its impact on economic development, she said, adding that it is imperative to take precautionary steps.

Dr Mohsina said the poor people should be apprised of the need to change their point of view and attitude regarding population. She informed the delegation that population growth could cause adverse impact on the country’s economy.

Population growth also affects national savings, foreign exchange earning and development of human resources. The population growth increases the requirements of social structure, slows down investment experiences and increases government expenditure.—APP
