SHEIKHUPURA, Dec 20: A college student was shot dead and his class fellow injured by a participant in a marriage party while ASP sustained injuries when angry students pelted stones at police near Shahkot, some 65 kilometres from here, on Saturday.

Police said a group of students was waiting for a conveyance. In the meantime, a bus carrying a marriage party reached there. The students stopped the vehicle and some of them climbed on to its roof. The bus conductor and its occupants forbade them to do so. But the students became infuriated and pelted stones on the bus. One of the participants in a marriage party fired shots in the air to disperse the students but bullets hit two students killing one of them and injuring another. The dead student was identified as Jamshed.

The angry students later blocked the Faisalabad Road for some time. ASP Masood Alam Kalachi reached the spot on receiving information. The students pelted stones at him injuring him also. However, he was discharged from hospital after first aid.

Police have arrested the accused and are investigating.
