LAHORE: Bio-safety laws on anvil

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Dec 20: Bio-safety laws are on the anvil and would be presented for adoption by the parliament in the near future.

Wheat Commissioner Dr Qader Bakhsh Baloch made this statement while talking to newsmen at the end of a seminar here on Saturday. He said the laws were being formulated by the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment in consultation with the provincial governments.

He said that formulation of these laws had been necessitated in view of the availability of products prepared from genetically-modified fruits and vegetables.

He said that the government had taken up the issue of categorization of Pakistani Super Basmati as brown rice with the European Union.
