ISLAMABAD: ‘Islamic laws compatible with major int’l laws’

ISLAMABAD, Dec 20: The Islamic laws are compatible with major international laws and there is no harm if Pakistan ratifies the international treaties, said Dr Javaid Rahman.
He was speaking at a function on the issue of ‘Islam and Human Rights’ at the Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights secretariat here on Saturday.
Dr Rehman discussed the contemporary significance of the subject, the issues of compatibility of international criminal laws with Islamic laws and definition of modern Islamic states.
He said almost all the Islamic countries were members of the United Nations. He added that in fact, the Islamic injunctions were encapsulated in the UN charter, therefore, it was false to think that Islamic laws were incompatible with the UN.
“There is a need for Pakistan to ratify a lot of international treatise on human rights, which will further the Pakistani cause and its image in the international arena” added Dr Rahman.
MNA Shujaul Mulk said the protection of human rights was imperative in a welfare Islamic state. “Only through this way a congenial society could be shaped. In this connection, the police and the courts system of our country needs reformation. This will eventually protect the rights of the victims and prisoners.”
