QUETTA, Dec 4: The central executive committee of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal has decided to observe a wheel-jam strike on Saturday to protest against the arrest of Rashid Azam and other political activists in the province.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by party’s central secretary-general Habib Jalib Baloch advocate here on Wednesday.

The meeting decided that the wheel-jam would be observed in Quetta and on the National Highway linking Quetta to Karachi.

The participants also approved the policy to be adopted by the three-party alliance of JWP, BNP, and the National Party on the “Save Gwadar movement.”

The committee maintained that the provincial government’s “anti-democratic act of arresting innocent people had forced the BNP to observe a wheel-jam strike on Saturday.”

It appealed to the transporters to join hands with the party and keep their vehicles off the road to make the protest a success.

The participants criticized the provincial government’s stand on the Gwadar port issue, and maintained that the government policy would allow people from other provinces to set up their settlement in Gwadar that would turn local population into a minority.

The meeting was informed that the three-party alliance would chalk out its strategy on Friday to finalize the programme for launching the Save Gwadar movement.

The meeting also decided to observe Shuda-i-December day on Sunday to pay tribute to those who rendered their lives to protect the rights of the Baloch people.

acquitted: Quetta Anti-Terrorist Court Judge Muhammad Shaukat Rakshani has acquitted former minister and three others in the Chamalang subversive act case.

However, the court convicted three absconders and awarded each of them 15 years’ RI for not appearing in the court.
