GUJRANWALA, Dec 1: The city tehsil council has banned installation of big billboards on government buildings and commercial plazas and ordered their removal within three days.

A council meeting observed here on Monday that the billboards caused damage to property and harm human life when they fell on ground in windstorm or due to any other reason.

The council issued notices for their removal and warned that they would be confiscated if they were not removed within three days.

Meanwhile, the city Nazim ordered removal of movies’ signboards from electricity poles as they block view of motorists and impede smooth flow of traffic.

BOMB HOAX: A bomb hoax in a cinema spread panic on Sunday night.

The second show of a film was continuing in the cinema in Model Town when an anonymous caller informed the management that a bomb planted there would blast in a couple of minutes.

The cinema management called police and bomb disposal squad which combed the cinema but found nothing.

The film show re-started after about an hour’s delay.

Two armed men intercepted scrap dealer Khalid Hassan on Mian Sansi Road, shot him dead on resistance and took away his motorcycle.

Three dacoits forced their entry into the house of Nazir ahmad in Abu Bakar Street, held up the inmates, collected 40 tolas of gold ornaments, Rs20,000, two mobile phones, 14 wrist watches, other valuables and escaped.

The dacoits also deprived two men of their motorcycles.
