KARACHI, Nov 29: A female passenger died and five others were injured in a road accident on Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road on Saturday morning.

Police said that a speeding minibus (JE-2818) rammed into a tree on Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road killing a woman passenger, sitting on the front seat, and injuring five other passengers. Those injured in the accident were identified as Jehangir, Riaz Masih, Bhaloo Ram, Prem and Phalwan.

All the injured and the body of unidentified woman were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Following the postmortem examination, the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification, police added.

SHOT DEAD: A press worker was shot dead by an armed bandit in Lyari on Saturday.

Police said that Mohammad Yousaf, 26, was going to a motorcycle workshop located on Faqir Mohammad Road when he was intercepted by an armed man. He demanded cash at gunpoint from Yousaf. However, on resistance, the armed man shot him dead and fled after taking Rs3,000 from the victim.

Police said that the injured was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In Mehmoodabad, unknown persons shot dead a young man early on Saturday morning. Police said that the body of Abdul Hafeez, 26, was found from Mahmood Shah Bukhari Road around 3am.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy examination. An FIR against unknown suspects was lodged by the victim’s brother, Abdul Hameed.

GUTTED: A bus was gutted in a huge fire that broke out in a godown behind old Sabzimandi on Saturday morning.

A spokesman for the fire department said that the fire broke out around 9am in the godown of fruit boxes located near Monoo goth. Hundreds of boxes were destroyed. Besides, a bus (JA-1647) that was parked near the godown also caught fire.

As many as eight fire tenders controlled the fire for at least four to five hours.

The cause and the extent of the damage left by the fire could not be ascertained.
