HYDERABAD, Nov 20: There are all kind of medicinal plants in Sindh and other parts of the country which can be used in the alternative therapies.

This was said by Dr Shamroz Bano Sehto on Thursday while giving a presentation on her PhD thesis on medicinal plants at the University of Sindh.

She said about 100 medicinal plants in the country were useful for treatment of various diseases of stomach, skin, hypertension, diabetes, kidney, liver and asthma.

She said herbal medicines had been used for thousands of years by generations of the Asian people and currently increased scientific interest and consumer demand for alternative therapies had promoted the development of herbal products.

Ms Sehto said native wild plants which were used for many remedies were collected and identified with the help of botanists of Sindh University and Sindh Agricultural University.

She said the plant-based medications had been man’s prime therapeutic weapons to rescue him from the diseases and added that oriental herbal medicines would certainly have a prominent role in the pharmaceutical markets in the 21st century.

Speaking on the occasion, vice-chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, urged scholars to work hard and provide guidance to new scholars for research in new fields.
