HYDERABAD, Nov 20: Activists of different human rights organizations and NGOs held a demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday in protest against the murder of two children in Larkana.
The demonstration, participated by the activists of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Democratic Commission for Human Development, Trust for Children’s Rights and Development and Sindh Development Society, coincided with the World Children’s Day.
Speaking on the occasion, People’s Party Parliamentarians leader Jam Saqi deplored the atrocities being committed against children in the country.
He said children were being subjected to unlawful labour, sexual abuses in jails, kidnapping and killings.
He said the prevailing state of affairs had defamed Pakistan at the international level.
Condemning the murders of Mujahid and Lakhmir in Larkana, the PPP leader said in such cases, police did not go beyond paperwork, with the result such crimes were on the rise.
HRCP activist Chaudhry Aftab criticized the authorities for not providing children with protection.
He said in civilized societies special laws had been enacted to protect children against tyranny but in Pakistan even existing laws were not being implemented.
Wahab Pandrani of the DCHD lashed out at the Larkana administration for its failure to protect the lives of the children.
He said the federal and Sindh governments should take notice of the inefficiency of the district administration and take action against officers concerned.
Qamar Shaikh, Naseem, Ghaffar Malik, Khadim Malik, M. Parkash, Suba Bhatti and others also spoke on the occasion.
One banner carried by children read: “Many schools in the interior of Sindh have been converted into guest houses by feudal lords”.
The children demanded that the schools should be reopened.
