KARACHI: Pemra tariff structure slammed

KARACHI, Nov 20: The cable operators, criticizing the tariff structure announced by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, have said it is not feasible.

Talking, informally, to the newsmen at an iftar-dinner hosted for them by Sindh Pemra on Thursday, the office-bearers of the Cable Operators Association (COA) said that they were not satisfied with the tariff.

Pemra had introduced a tariff of Rs1 per subscriber, per local channel, per month, and Rs2 per foreign channel.

“There are two dealers of foreign TV channels here, who charge exorbitant rates, ranging upto Rs50,000 per channel, per month,” COA chairman Khalid Shaikh said.

A Pemra official said that the tariff announced was the minimum, and the violating cable operators would have to face penalties.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the Council of Complaint Cell was also held, which was presided over by acting director of Sindh Pemra, Tariq Aziz. The city Naib Nazim also attended the meeting, which discussed the complaints of cable operators.—APP
