‘PTCL package for low income groups soon’

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10: Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said on Monday that a fixed-amount package had been prepared for phone subscribers who did not make more than 150 calls in a month.

Speaking in a PTV programme he said more attractive packages for different income groups would be offered and the consumers would be provided an opportunity to select a package.

The minister foresaw no adverse effect on Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation’s financial health from the recent package and said it was meant to share the PTCL’s profits with its consumers.

The objective of PTCL was to retain its customers and increase their number as new companies were about to enter the arena, he observed.

He admitted that the rates for mobile phone calls were high and promised to revise those.

#BEEP SYSTEM:# The PTCL will introduce a system to inform local callers that the five-minute time for the first call was about to end.

“The warning system will be launched through a beep system,” PTCL Chairman Akhtar Ahmed Bajwa said during the programme.

He said there were some technical constraints in introducing the system, however, the exchanges would be equipped with necessary gadgets.

Stretching the duration of local call to 10 minutes during night was a first step towards providing more facilities to the customers, whereas some neighbouring countries had three-minute local calls, he said.

He said a package would be introduced under which every following minute would be charged at reduced rates after five minutes.

He said a new timing regime, divided into peak, evening and night, had been introducedto urge the people to use the facility during the prime time also.—APP
