KARACHI: 470 bus shelters planned


KARACHI, Nov 7: The city district government Karachi, will construct 470 bus shelters in the city purely on build-operate and transfer (BOT) basis.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Nazim Naimatullah Khan.

The Nazim was informed that these bus shelters would be completed in April next year.

There would be three types of shelters, the first having shops for special people to help provide them job opportunities, the second type of waiting shelters will have separate wash-rooms for men and women while the third will be only waiting shelters.

Besides, a model pedestrian bridge will also be constructed in front of Urdu College.

The meeting also discussed the construction and development of inter-city bus terminuses and it was decided that these would also be built on BOT basis.

The meeting was informed that schemes are also under consideration for multi-storeyed car parking at Hasan Square, Lines Area and Clifton.

The meeting was attended by EDO Transport Tahir Soomro, EDO Works and Services Shoaib Siddiqi, representative of Nazim Karachi, Saleem Azhar and other officials.—APP
