LONDON, Oct 20: Foreign ministers from Britain, France and Germany will hold talks with Iranian leaders in Tehran on Tuesday on a last-ditch mission to try to resolve a standoff over the country’s nuclear programme, it was announced here on Monday.

“Resolving the doubts surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme is of grave concern to the European Union and wider international community,” British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said in a statement.

In Tehran, the state news agency said Iran believed the conditions had been met to sign an additional protocol to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT) as demanded by the IAEA.

“Taking into account the positive results and the accord obtained between the IAEA and Iran ..., the conditions for the signature of the additional protocol have now been met,” it said, quoting “a well-informed source”.—Reuters
