Double success for Kashif and Fareed


KARACHI, Oct 20: Karachi as expected won the team event of Sindh table tennis championship when they overwhelmed Hyderabad 3-0 in the final at Islamia Club Indoor Gymnasium Hall on Sunday.

It was double triumph for Khawja Kashif and Fareed-ul-Haq, who besides being part of Karachi team, also won the men’s doubles crown beating Asim Hussain and Hasan Haider 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9.

Karachi boys faced no problem in easily beating Hyderabad. Sukkur finished third, Mirpurkhas fourth and Larkana secured fifth and last spot in five-team competition.

Khawja Kashif, Hasan Haider, Fareed-ul-Haq all from karachi and Haleem Ahmed Hyderabad entered the semifinal after winning their quarterfinals.

Karachi bt Hyderabad 3-0.

Khawaja Kashif bt Awais Ahmed 11-5, 11-7, 11-8, Hasan Haider bt Haleem Ahmed 11-6, 11-8, 11-9, Fareed-ul-Haq bt Adnan Leghari 11-8, 11-9, 11-6.

Men’s singles quarterfinals: Khawaja Kashif (Kar) bt Haris Pirzada (Hyd) 11-6, 11-8, 11-6, Haleem Ahmed (Hyd) bt Asim Hussain (Kar) 11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, Fareed-ul-Haq (Kar) bt Awais Ahmed (Hyd) 11-8, 11-7, 11-9, Hasan Haider (Kar) bt Adnan Hashmi 11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9.

Men’s doubles semifinals: Khawaja Kashif/Fareed-ul-Haq (Kar) bt Haris Pirzada/Adnan Hashmi (Hyd) 11-9, 11-5, 11-6, Hasan Haider/Asim Hussain (Kar) bt Haleem Ahmed/Awais Ahmed 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-7.

Final: Khawaja Kashif/Fareed-ul-Haq (Kar) bt Asim Hussain/Hassan Haider (Kar) 3-1, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9.
