KARACHI, Oct 20: Pakistan duo of Saleh Muhammad and Khurram Hussain Agha registered identical 4-1 victories in the World Snooker Championship in Jiangmen City (China) on Sunday, according to a message received by Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Championship.
Saleh, featuring in his tenth global contest, continued his superb unbeaten run. He lost the fourth frame before chalking out his eighth successive victory overpowring Roy Stalk of Netherlands.
Saleh took about an hour and half to defeat Stolk 64-37, 71-33, 82-44, 35-63, 55-44. Saleh, who compiled a century break and several breaks of over 50s, however was unable to muster any big break in his win.
With this victory Saleh is leading the group “D”. After Monday evening’s 9th match against Balazs Hamori of Hungary, Saleh will take on Mei Xiwen of China to decide the group champion on Tuesday.
Pakistan’s top ranked player, Khurram lifted himself fifth in group “E” after beating Sai Huo Hui of China Macau 69-42, 66-29, 71- 24, 48-60, 56-15. Khurram compiled a break of 65 in the second frame.
Khurram will meet Mohsen Abdul Aziz in do-and-die final league encounter. The knock-out stage of the championship commences from wednesday.
Top four players from each of the eight pools will advance tp the knock-out rounds.—APP
