KARACHI: Thousands of phones dead

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 20: The Azizabad exchange of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company developed a switching fault on Monday night.

Sources told Dawn that thousands of telephone numbers in the Azizabad exchange had become non-operational.

With the help of PTCL telephone directories, Dawn dialled a large number of telephone numbers in Federal B Area. They were all on the blink.

The sources said PTCL engineers rectified the fault in a couple of hours.

The PTCL director of the switching department, Izharullah Siddiqui, confirmed that the switching network of the Azizabad exchange had developed a fault. He said he had no idea why the fault had occurred.
