ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz on Sunday visited an exhibition of defence equipment here at the Convention Centre and evinced keen interest in the indigenously manufactured weapons.
The Crown Prince was received at the Convention Centre by President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali.
He went around different sections of the exhibition organized by the Defence Export Promotion Organization. Around 11 different organizations had set up stalls of defence equipment.
The Pakistan Ordnance Factories had put on display its range of infantry weapons, small arms and artillery ammunition. The factories manufacture aircraft and anti-aircraft, anti-tank ammunition and commercial explosives and exports these to around 30 countries.
The Institute of Industrial Control Systems displayed a anti-tank missile — Baktar Shikan, a surface to air guided missiles — Anza and their training simulators. Also on display were remote control mine exploders, laser range finders and explosive reactive kits for al-Khalid tanks.
Another stall by Al-Technique Corporation of Pakistan showed their range of modern optics, laser designators, laser threat sensors, altimeters, night vision devices and integrated fire control systems.
The Pakistan Aeronautical Complex had put on display avionics system in collaboration with foreign manufacturers. The Super Mashak aircraft is also exported to a number of countries.
The Integrated Defence System is known for manufacturing unmanned aerial weapons, anti-armour bombs, cluster bombs, star fish naval ground mine system, military batteries.
The Karachi shipyard builds midget submarines, Agosta 90 B, missile and patrol boats.
The Army Weapons Complex displayed an array of cluster bombs, anti-runway munitions.
The Crown Prince witnessed a demonstration of Pakistan’s main battle tank al-Khalid and the Armoured Personnel Carriers Talha and Saad.—APP
