SUKKUR, Oct 18: Chief Justice Sindh High Court Saiyed Saeed Ashhad has said recruitments on a large scale will soon take place in different cadres of the judiciary to help dispose of a backlog of cases in the province.

He was talking to newsmen after the inauguration of district court complex here on Friday.

The chief justice said he was satisfied with the working of bar and bench which he resolved was quite essential for solving the problems of people.

Mr Ashhad said corruption was a general problem of society and the judiciary being a part of it could not claim innocence. However, he added, in a number of cases strict disciplinary action was taken by the SHC against corrupt judges and other officials and this exercise would not be stopped.

Earlier, the chief justice in his inaugural speech paid complements to the works and buildings department for completing the 75 per cent work of the first phase in a record time of one year, which was inaugurated by him.

The CJ said the Sindh government had decided to fill in vacant posts of the civil judges and additional civil Judges in order to dispose of backlog of pending cases.

He recalled that Sukkur earned the status of judicial district in 1902, therefore, the completion of district court complex and its inauguration by him also marked its centenary celebration.

He said the building of district court complex was extremely perfect and would cater to the needs of people and lawyers in the years to come.

He termed the building a good addition to the beauty of the city. Chief Justice while replying to the welcome address by District Bar Association President Maqbool Ahmed Awan said interviews for the posts of civil judges had been completed and within a couple of days notification would be issued.

He also promised to consider appointment of a lady judge for the family court of Sukkur.

Mr Awan in his welcome address said the new district court building was transformed into a reality due to the keen interest by the chief Justice of Sindh.

He said there was a lot of burden on courts of the first and second senior civil judge.

He said 250 cases had been transferred from the STA court to the courts of the First and Second Additional Sessions Judge for trial in the jail.

He also demanded removal of encroachments on some parts of the district court’s building so that lawyers’ chamber could be constructed there.

The function was attended by Justice Zahid Qurban Alvi, Justice Ali Aslam Jaffery, Justice Zawwar Hussain Jaffery and Justice Maqbool Baqar.
