Shahid new amateur champion
ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: Shahid Javed Khan was declared the new amateur Champion in the 42nd Caltex National Amateur Golf championship which concluded on Sunday at the par-72 Islamabad Golf Club.
Tariq Mehmood had to be content with the runners-up prize and Vaqas Ahmed ended up third.
The game ends after four days of massive tee shots which fore some competing golfers formed the basis for ultimate victory, however the four days marked a time of struggle and strain.
A youngster, of Punjab University, who managed to shine and dazzle in this competition is Shahid Javed Khan, Shahid who is just 22 and a student of MBA is establishing his name as one of the brightest young players of Pakistan Gol f arena.
He began the final day, yesterday, with a six strokes lead and through a display of power packed drives and accurate fairway shots he literally controlled the happening of the day, infact managed to convert his outing into a stroll.
None of the others could launch a charge that would in any way influence his advance to the National title.
The other main contenders Vaqas Ahmed and Tariq Mehmood could have turned on their cylinders to make life difficult for Shahid and intercept his flight to the Victory stand, but there was no dramatic twist to the competition.

Best net rounds of each day went to Tariq Mehmood, Waseem Rana, Hassan Niazi and Rashid Akbar, while best gross round winner of each day are Dr. Aimal Zaman, Shahid Javed Khan, Vaqas Ahmed and Taimur Hassan.
