Treasury being looted: Azhar

Published October 13, 2003

LAHORE, Oct 12: Former PML-Q president Mian Muhammad Azhar in his severest ever attack on the present rulers said on Sunday that those who should have been behind bars were governing the country while those who should have been in power were sitting idle at their homes.

“Politics has been converted into a business and the treasury is being looted”, he said in a statement.

He said the elected rulers, not army, were answerable to the people. He said during the past one year the rulers had failed to deliver as a result of which unrest, disappointment, poverty and unemployment had gone up.

If no step was taken to provide relief to the masses, the situation would slip out of the government’s control, he warned.

Mian Azhar asked PML workers to get ready to play their role. He said he would soon hold a meeting of party workers at Lahore and announce his future course of action. “We’ll not allow inept, corrupt and sick people hold the party captive”. — Staff Reporter
