40 Afghans handed over to Kabul authorities

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Oct 12: Pakistan arrested 40 Afghan nationals who crossed into Chaman illegally and Iranian border force nabbed 28 Pakistani nationals at its border on Sunday.

Levies force posted at Pakistan-Afghanistan border arrested the Afghans when they were entering Chaman from across the border, official sources said.

“Afghans trying to cross into Pakistan had no legal travelling documents,” they said, and added that all of them were Tajiks hailing from northern Afghanistan.

Levies later handed over the arrested people to Afghan border authorities in Spin Boldak after initial investigations.

In another development, Iranian border security force took 28 Pakistanis into custody when they entered Iran illegally. Sources said the Iranian authorities later handed over these people to Pakistani security officials.

“The Pakistanis, who belong to different areas of central Punjab, were on their way to Greece via Iran illegally,” a Pakistani immigration offi-cer told Dawn over telephone from border town Taftan, and added that all the 28 had been detained for investigation.
