KARACHI: Man commits suicide after killing daughter

KARACHI, Oct 7: A middle-aged man committed suicide after killing his daughter and injuring the other in his house in Kharadar on Tuesday.

Police said Mohammad Hanif, 45, residing on the third floor of Kaya Manzil Chaghla Street opened fire at his daughters injuring the younger, Alishah, 8, and killing the elder, Mahvish, who was 18.

The police said that Hanif later committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

The firing created panic in the neighbourhood and people informed the police help line 15.

The police said that at the time of the incident, Hanif’s wife and his youngest daughter had gone to visit Hanif’s elder brother’s house at the second floor.

Hearing the shots the family rushed back to the third floor and saw the aftermath of the tragic incident.

The SHO, Kharadar police station, Abdullah, told Dawn that Hanif was related to the Karachi Stock Exchange and according to the initial investigations he was faced with some financial problems.

Following the incident, the injured girl and the dead were taken to the Civil Hospital, where Alishah was admitted for treatment.

Hospital sources declared her condition serious as she had suffered two bullet wounds.

ACCIDENT: A youth died in a road traffic accident in Defence on Tuesday.

Police said that Mushtaq, 30, was on his cycle when a speeding car knocked him down on Khayaban-i-Itthad, DHA-VIII.

The police said that the victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police claimed to have arrested the errant driver and impounded the vehicle.

INJURED: At least eight passengers were injured, including a woman, when a speeding passenger coach overturned near Nagan Chowrangi on late Monday night.
