KARACHI, Oct 6: Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Khan Marwat said on Monday that the government had established Endowment Fund for deserving and poor students who intend to acquire higher education.

The minister, presiding over a meeting at his office here, said it was hurting to note that many brilliant students were deprived of higher studies only because of unaffordable fees of various educational institutions in the country. Now these deserving students would be given stipends for the purpose.

Mr Marwat said 100 stipends would be given as tuition fee to those students who wanted to get higher education in business administration and information technology in the Institute of Business Administration, the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology, Isra University, the College of Business Management, the Indus Valley School of Arts, FAST and Sindh University.

Those students would also get the scholarships who were already studying there and deserved financial assistance, he said.

The education minister said that 60 per cent scholarships would be for students from rural areas and 40 per cent scholarships would be accorded to students belonging to urban areas.

Irfanullah Khan Marwat asserted that these scholarships would be accorded on merit only.

He advised all interested students to send their applications to the Secretary for Endowment Board by Oct 30. — APP
