ISLAMABAD, Sept 29: The central working committee of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Q, which met here on Monday, authorized the party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to change the party’s name to “Pakistan Muslim League”.
The CWC endorsed the report submitted by the advisory committee on implementation of the plan for the unification of five PML factions. The report envisages that every faction shall submit an undertaking to the Election Commission requesting for the removal of its affix.
According to this decision, Salim Saifullah Khan, the party’s secretary-general, will meet the Chief Election Commissioner on Tuesday and hand him over the resolution of the CWC.
At the very outset, the CWC endorsed the decision of the party’s unification/merger with other four factions of the PML, and authorized Chaudhry Shujaat to deal with all matters relating to this move.
It decided that all the party organizations/bodies and office-bearers of all the five factions will continue to function until otherwise decided by the party president who will also nominate new office-bearers in his discretion.
The CWC, which met at the PML house with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in the chair, resolved that in line with the decisions taken by the advisory committee for the implementation of the unification accord, the party, registered with the CEC as PML-Q, will now be renamed as “Pakistan Muslim League”.
The organizers claimed that the CWC was attended by around 240 members from all over the country. About two dozen members spoke on the occasion in support of unification.
Prominent among the participants were Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi Chaudhry and Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mehar. The Balochistan’s CM was represented by senator Naseer Mengal.
