KARACHI: O-levels in govt schools promised

KARACHI, Sept 28: Provincial Education Minister Irfanullah Marwat has said that government has adopted effective and comprehensive policy and is taking measures to ensure quality education and an enhanced efficiency of public institutions.

He was speaking as chief guest at the BVS School’s award distribution ceremony here on Sunday.

The minister pointed out that President Musharraf had issued special instructions to all provincial governments to raise literacy rate in their respective areas and ensure education facilities to every deserving child. For the accomplishment of this cherished goal, he said, allocation to education sector was increased.

Mr Marwat pointed out that under a well-planned programme, two English-medium schools in every town of Karachi were being opened. Besides, he said, as many such schools would be opened in each taluka and district of the province. He said that O-level would also be imparted to the students as the government was aware of the fact that people from lower class could not afford exorbitant fee being charged by private schools.

“In the first phase, the scheme is being launched from the NJV School for which the government, in collaboration with private companies, would allocate special funds,” he revealed.

Commending the efforts by Parsi community in the fields of education and health, he remarked that “the credit of Parsi schools’ students attaining excellence in board examinations goes to their administrations.”

In her welcome address, Principal of the school Ms Dina Mistri said that she had set imparting quality education as her foremost objective. She pointed out that there were more than 1,100 students in different classes of the school.— PPI
