SRINAGAR, Sept 28: Freedom fighters shot dead a policeman and his two children in Kashmir, a police spokesman said on Sunday, as gunbattles raged in the disputed region, where violence has spiralled in recent weeks.
“During the preceding night militants entered into house of Special Police Officer Muneer Hussain and resorted to indiscriminate firing,” a police spokesman told Reuters.
Hussain and three members of his family, among them two boys aged seven and eight, were killed in the attack in the district of Udhampur south of Srinagar.
Elsewhere in the Himalayan region an Indian soldier and ten separatist fighters were killed in separate gunbattles in the past 24 hours, the spokesman added.—Reuters
