KHAIRPUR, Sept 26: Breaches occured in three canals of Sindh on Thursday and Friday, inundating cultivated land and houses.
The Hameer Minor developed 20-foot wide breaches at four different places on Thursday night near Ripri.
About half a dozen houses and a graveyard were submerged while banana and other seasonal crops were also damaged.
Villagers alleged that due to negligence of the irrigation officials, the minor developed breaches.
SUKKUR: A 35-foot-wide breach occurred in Patni Minor near Kandhra, Sukkur district, on Thursday night.
As a result, rice and cotton crops standing over hundreds of acres of land and at least 30 houses were inundated.
The irrigation staff reached on the spot, closed Mir Wah and with the help of the villagers plugged the breach.
MIRPURKHAS: A breach occurred in Mithrao Canal near Ram Jago regulator on Friday.
The residents of nearby villages were shifted to safer places.
The irrigation officials with the help of growers plugged another breach earlier developed by the canal near Khani Mori in Samaro area.
Two breaches had occurred in Mithrao Canal near Khani Mori regulator at RD-334 and near Ram Jago regulator at RD-303 two days ago.
The breaches had resulted in inundation of dozens of villages and crops of chilli, cotton, onion seed, sugarcane and vegetables on a vast area.
