HYDERABAD: Retirement plan condemned

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Sept 26: The president of Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union, Abdul Latif Nizamani, has condemned the compulsory retirement of hundreds of Hesco employees under the “removal from service (special power) ordinance 2000”.

He was speaking at a workers’ meeting at the Labour Hall, Gari Khata, here on Friday.

He regretted that even the performance allowance of Rs250 per month had not been restored and the employment quota of the employees had also been abolished.

He said it was the same case with contractual, work charge and daily wage employees whose services could be terminated any time.

He said this was adversely affecting their performance due to perpetual tension.

Mr Nizamani said that a series of protest demonstrations would be launched in Sindh starting from October 1 against the government and Wapda.

JSQM: The chairman, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Bashir Khan Qureshi, its vice-president, Dr Niaz Kalani; its general secretary, Abdul Wahid Areesar, and other office bearers of the Mahaz have taken strong exception to the conversion of an amenity plot in front of the St Bonaventure High School, Qasimabad, into a police post.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, they demanded that the Sindh chief minister, IGP, and the district Nazim, Hyderabad, intervene in the matter.

They said that the police building may be raised on one of the vacant plots in Sehrish Nagar.
